Carnival is Id over Superego: a relinquishing of the oppression of executive functioning over a people's inclination towards sexuality and disinhibition. Carnival is rhythm and motion, to the beat of a drum, to the sway of a musical composition. Carnival is colour that renders itself grey as it stirs itself in a milieu of constant motion. Carnival is character: it gives face to the ordinarily faceless, beaten down by the drudgery of everyday life. Carnival is defiance over authority, a vestige left over from Colonialism.
